Round 9 Game Day Roundup v Griffith

FOOTBALL

Well round One is done and dusted for 2016, and the tiger brigade in all grades of football and netball are sitting all somewhere at the top of their respective ladders, all in finals contention, and primed for a big second half of the season. The senior side sits 8 points clear and will now become the ‘hunted’ in round 2

The trip to Griffith is always and arduous task to bring the FOUR points home but we arrived, played to our best and took home the points in the Magoos and the seniors. The 17’s had a battle on their hands, an always strong Griffith side had our measure on the day. Xavier Lyons had one of his best games, with Fraser Yates the best, Wakefield was busy up forward and Dejong the next one up for some chocolates. A hard day at the office for the young Tigers.

The reserves had a massive win. Nearly 100 point the margin. Creepy Crawly Ash Dickenberg had a ripper down forward. Hard man to move!!, Louis Beard is dominating in the twos of late ,J McGowan had a 1000 touches, P Harrington had a ripper and Rory Redfern a deserved winner of the award.

Johnny Buchanan had a day out, 6 snags to add to his full coolroom, Paddy O’Connell looked look SILKY all day, Jacko Kelly turned the Jets on when needed and Jim Carrol had a blonder with 30 plus touches. Carter Lovell had his own ball in the back line, Nova , say nor more, he just gets the job done. And Palm Tree Graham was dominant. A big win at Exies Oval

Today is a HUG test for all grades. Match of the round on our home deck, lets now March into spring with a win this weekend

NETBALL

Saturday saw our girls make the 400km round trip to Griffith, which proved well worthwhile. Keeping true to form we came home winners in all grades. Fortunately the weather held out and we had a dry court for the day.

C grade started the day winning 37-27 with Courtney Byrne demonstrating great skills and support for her teammates. B grade continued the theme winning easily 68-47 with Ellen Briggs getting players player. Reserve grade continue to build winning by over thirty goals. Kate Roberts was dominant in the centre court creating ample opportunity for her goalers to score points.  A Grade had a dominant win combining well and using space the whole up the court. A good centre court combination of Rachael Addison and Josie Daniher set up many intercept opportunities for Kate Bell and Anna Ryan in defence.  Saturday’s games see the end of Round 1 with all our netball teams building well and creating an opportunity to play in finals
