Round 8 Game Day Roundup v Ganmain

FOOTBALL

What was billed as match of the round in the seniors by many and with the Lions reunions taking place on the day the tiger boys had their own party late Saturday afternoon keeping the usual parochial Ganmain supporters silent for the whole afternoon with a significant 80 point win.

The day started with the under 17 taking home the four points in a ripper of a game. If the boys had of kicked straight (12 points) the game may have been put to bed early. 10 point winners in the end. Young Burmeister and Fraser Yates where the standouts early, L Wakefield kicked 3 with Bennet and Wadley again in the best.

The reserves had the battle of the day. A few old faces in the GGMM side from the past helped lift the regulars with only 2 points in it with a few minutes to go. Tiger’s class and fitness held them together for a gutsy win. Jess Manton had his own ball for the first half and showed his polish, Vicary out of the backline was my best, the man was like a Peter’s drumstick “unbeatable” all day. Damian ‘pappy’ Papworth turned back time and had more leather than a dodgy hand bag salesman from Bangladesh, Josh ‘Lardy’ Larwood looked sharp as pin and Hodgey again showed why he played seniors early on this year. All in all a solid win

In the main game it genuinely was a 21 man effort. The ball moved smoother than a ‘barbers shave’ most times, ferocious at the ball and ran in numbers like a buffalo migration heading north for spring, a delight to watch for tigers fans. Shaun ‘CC’ Campbell turned one on for BOG , John ‘nova’ Anstee had more spoils than the average one year old , Jacko Kelly also seemed to have his own pill for a fair bit of the game while Jacob ‘Ozzy’ Osbeiston Made his 2016 debut to win a ticket to the circus . John Buchanan would be filthy if he don’t get a mention slotting five but missed another five that the average Auskicker would have slotted. Dale Walker again showed he is a hard man to beat with Dylan Morton again showing signs of a big future in the game.

This week a massive test over at The Exies, sitting seconds on the ladder the Swans will be keen to get a scalp in all three grades

NETBALL

Saturday saw the clouds move on for a chilly but dry day for the netballers. With our numbers a bit slim due to the long weekend and other sporting commitments, those that remained put in a stellar effort. Many of the girls playing two games for the day and performing scoring or umpiring duties on top of this. The drive to Ganmain proved worthwhile with all grades gaining wins for the day.  The day started well with C Grade winning well and Brittany Lee Bedford getting players player. This was followed by a hat trick for B Grade- yes that’s right three wins in a row. Brooke Lawrence was an integral part of this win with her continued accurate passing and all round skills. A reserve played well, with very few errors and a good team effort with Maddi Kelly and Hennie Inglis displaying some great body strength to move the ball through the mid court. Whilst A grade were missing a few players Bree Picciolo and Bree Cain provided a good substitute in both the defence and shooting ends. A grade took their time to settle, demonstrating sporadic passages of good play mixed with some poor decisions and plays. Despite this some good defence from Anna Ryan and Bridget Webster saw A grade come home with the win. Once again thanks again to all the girls that went above and beyond for the club on Saturday
