What a fabulous weekend. Celebrations commenced on Friday evening at the Red Lion ( Major Sponsor) Hotel in Edward Street. There was a great mix of the three decades of Premiers and current day players. On Saturday morning we were greeted with a most welcome sight - the heavens had opened up and we were in the midst of receiving some very welcome rain. The rain certainly did not dampen the spirits with the Club rooms soon overflowing with spectators trying to get a glimpse of the Under 18's match. They certainly were not disappointed with the effort the boys were putting in on the sloshy surface. Doug Priest and his 1975 charges including Pebbles Power, Brian Baker, Gary Colvin, Jack Osbeiston, Peter Friedlieb and Ron Jennings from the 1975 win were on hand ( as well as Doug's dad Merv who captained our club in 1947!) Also attending the weekend was early '70's player Ross Ord who now resides in Canberra and is still an avid follower of our Tigers.Wimpy Barber had the 1985 boys barracking away as only Wimpy can - most of the guys were locals and are real stalwarts of our club - Michael Walker ( wacky), Chris Chamberlain, Murray Denton, Bevan Rowe, David Brown, Gerald "The Legend" Pieper,1985 Treasurer Peter Bennet and selectors Barry Walker and Pat McDonnell. The 1995 boys unfortunately could not have TD - Terry Daniher present due to his AFL committments with St Kilda, but Anthony Watson added a bit of class ( remember Wato the high flier), Murray Barber, Warick Brown, Jason Morton, PJ Irvine, Matty Hundy ( geez he was quick), Jason Samuelson, Adrian Hamilton, Andy and Steve Priest, Steven Schultz, Robbie Jackson, Ray Colvin. Gerald Pieper and the mercurial Phil Poulos ( who is still running the water). The formal part of the celebrations culminated on Saturday evening with the obvious numerous renditions of the Tiger Song.

History of Wagga Little League – as documented by Clive Willis

The Wagga Little League was formed by the Wagga Tigers Football Club in 1973 after Greg Kershaw watched a game at South Melbourne with South Melbourne Little League Coach Darryl Flanagan. Greg told Darryl that in his opinion a team from Wagga would be very competitive so Darryl invited Greg through the Wagga Tigers to send a team down to play against Geelong on 7-7-1973. The games were played at half time of the first grade game. Two seven minute halves were played on the full size of the oval and all boys were to be under 11 at the 1st of January of that year. The first team contained a majority of Wagga Tigers boys with a few players from local clubs invited to play.

Greg Kershaw coached the team and Len McCallum was Team manager. Wagga beat Geelong 2.2.14 to 1.0.6. Goal kickers were Ian Smith and Kevin Carey. Players of note were Brian and Paul Hawke ( Tigers) and Brett Allen of Coolamon.

Stay posted......1974 saw one of our current players ( as old as he is!) star in the game against South Melbourne....
